Bruce Tofias/ Woodworking Memories

Most of us know Bruce Tofias as the congenial primary care doctor and internist, the committed activist, a talented wordsmith…from poetry to the now well-known reunion line ‘Meet each other again for the first time’. But how many know Bruce the woodworker extraordinaire, the creator and giver of timeless memories? Well, it’s time you found out.

We asked Bruce to set the stage, and here is what he wrote:

“As in so many of the arts, woodworking is something where the medium speaks and one’s hands and mind are merely the vehicle to bring out its essence. Such is the case with these pieces. They are made with wood from my yard, oak and maple and grape or driftwood from Falmouth harbor and spalted maple of Cornwall VT.

They represent memories of a dear friend who passed away far too young, honoring our Canter’s 18 years of delight music, celebration of a joyous wedding, the toque of a delight French baker and walking movement reminiscent of a demolition derby 50 years ago.

Fun to let the wood speak and the heart and mind and hands respond. Thanks for letting me share.

I also enjoy poetry. Please glance at the last page of our Reunion book.”
